Levi Kirk’s name appears several times in “The History of Champaign County, Ohio …”, Chicago: W.R. Beers & Co., 1881. Rush Township and North Lewisburg pages 560 through 584. He was mayor of North Lewisburg in 1860 and 1861 as well as elected to council in 1859 and 1866.


U.S. Federal 1860 Census, Series M653, Roll 942, page 17, line 15, Champaign County, Lewisburg:
Levi Kirk, age 43, occupation of “mason and Plasterer”, his real estate was worth $3,000 and his personal estate was worth $600; Hannah, age 48; Robert Stratecham (sp?), age 9; Mrs. O.E. Spain, age 40, her real estate was worth $1,800, and her personal estate was worth $500; Louisa Fowler, age 38, school teacher. Mrs. O.E. Spain and Louisa Fowler were born in New York. Everyone else is listed as having been born in Ohio.

Levi Kirk is shown as age 53 with an occupation of “manufacturer of sash, door and blinds.” His real estate was worth $7,000 and personal estate was worth $4,000.00. Hannah was age 58, and keeping house. Also in the household at the time is Robert Strahen, age 19, as a day laborer. All born in Ohio.
