John H. Edie, Sr. was born July 25, 1813, in Washington County, Pennsylvania. His father was James Edie, Sr., one of the earliest pioneeers in Tuscarawas County. John married Maria Palmer on September 28, 1837, in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. John and Maria had eight children and established a large and prosperous farm near Tuscarawas, Ohio. Both John and Maria were members of the Sharon Moravian Church.
