David was born to Charles Ivan Oatman and Lillian Marie Miller Oatman but was legally adopted by Lillian Miller's aunt and uncle, David and Elvaretta (Ella) Griffiths. Young David was killed by a drunk driver crossing the street in Newark, Ohio.
