Zenas was the youngest son of Samuel McCullaugh/McCullough Jr. and Margaret Robinson. He was born 29 Apr 1845 in Union County, Ohio. Zenas enlisted and served in the Civil War when he was 19 years old. On 7 Feb 1867, Zenas married Hester Mitchell, youngest daughter of Jesse Mitchell and Elizabeth Wilson Robinson. They had two children, prior to his early death. Zenas died on 24 Sep 1869 in a farm accident involving a threshing machine.
