“Mary Bauer, ten months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bauer, who live in two wagons in Stewartsville, died about 11 o’clock Friday night of pneumonia. The family have lived in the wagons in Stewartsville for about two years. There are several other children in the family. The remains of the infant were buried in School Land Hollow cemetery Saturday afternoon.” Source: New Boston column, Portsmouth Daily Times, Ohio, 01 July 1916, Page 8. Note: There are some similarities between Mary Bauer and Marion Jane Biars, a baby who died the same day and was also buried in School Land Hollow cemetery, also known as Milldale. Marion Jane was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Biars and had several siblings. The Biars surname has several spelling variations. Family members say Marion Jane died at seven months old, according to her death certificate, and the newspaper article says Mary died at 10 months.
