John M. Piechowiak
1905 - 1956

Father Piechowiak spent at least six years in Dachau, a Nazi prison camp. He came to Toledo under the assistance of the Catholic Committee for Refugees of New York City and served as assistant pastor of St. Stanislaus parish. He was a native of Lipa, Poland and was ordained to the priesthood in 1933. Six years later, Poland was invaded and he was placed into Dachau. He was freed from Dachau in 1945 when Americans had taken over the prison. In 1953, Fr. Piechowiak suffered a stroke and remained in St. Vincent's Hospital until his death.
