ST. PARIS – Melvin E. Bodey, age 82, of St. Paris, passed away at 6:22 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, in his residence. Born on June 30, 1933 in Champaign County, Jackson Township, Melvin was the only child of the late Joseph P. and Myrl (Baker) Bodey. He married Phyllis R. Hoewischer on Sept. 20, 1953, and she survives.
He is also survived by four sons and their spouses: Michael and Karen Bodey of Mutual; Phillip and Mary Bodey of Woodville; Richard and Gloria Bodey, and Roger and Meredith Bodey, all of St. Paris. He was a proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Elaine (Clay) Halterman of Urbana, Brent (Jillan) Bodey of Wayne, Monica (Nathan) Kaffenbarger of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Gina (Jermaine) Holliday of Springfield, Shannon Bodey of St. Paris, Mikayla Bodey of St. Paris; and three great-grandchildren: Ainslee, Wyatt, and Aubree.
Melvin was a 1951 graduate of Christiansburg-Jackson School and a member of the St. Paris United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong farmer and served on the board of the Champaign County Farm Bureau. He resided in Jackson Township his entire life and served on the zoning board. He also served on the Spring Grove Cemetery Board.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, in the ATKINS-SHIVELY FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris,with Reverend Dave Kepple of the St. Paris United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, North Heck Hill Road, St. Paris. Visitation will be held in the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the services at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
