Bige Wooten, 88, of Springfield, died at 5:30 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2008 in his residence.
He was born April 15, 1919 in Hyden, Kentucky to Emanuel and Della Mae (Howard) Wooten.
Bige retired as a supervisor in 1979 from Conrail after 38 years of service. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was a U.S. Army Veteran having received two Purple Hearts.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Flora (Vires); 8 children and spouses, Mason and Bertie Wooten, Crothersville, Indiana, Britt and Libby Wooten, Ann and Danny Albert, Verda and Jim Ilges, Lyle Wooten, Springfield, OH, Charlie and Peggy Wooten, Live Oaks, Florida, Timmy and Tammy Wooten, Ada, OH and Jeff and Angel Wooten, Urbana, OH; 31 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; one surviving sister, Dru Simpson, Chula Vista, CA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bige Curtis Wooten.
Burial will be in Terre Haute Cemetery.
