John was the son of Ezra Gleason AYRES and Hannah L. (SLATER) AYRES. Cyrena was the daughter of Uri SUMNER and Lydia (ADAMS) SUMNER.

John and Cyrena Ayres were early arrivals to Williams Co., Ohio, along with Uriah Sumner, William Sumner and others. John would have been twenty-nine years old and married with two children in 1838 when he arrived in Williams County.
