George Brokaw, a Revolutionary War soldier of NJ, has been the subject of numerous DAR and SAR memberships. He was b. 29 Mar 1755 in Somerset Co.,NJ, and died 27 Jun 1842 in OH. He was the great grandson of Bourgon Broucard, a French Huguenot immigrant to NY who was b. Mar 1645, La Rochelle, France and d. 1720 Somerset, NJ, and on whom his descendants have based membership in the National Huguenot Society. The gravestone shown is adjacent to the original stone, still standing but very worn. The last line on this 1955 stone reads: "On recognition of a rich heritage". A DAR marker is in the foreground.
