*July 23, 1962 is a day that will live in my memory forever. I was standing by the roadside Highway 684 in Harrisonville across from my home when I saw Mr. Moodispaugh, who was on the top of the pole, swat at something. He worked for the electric company. There was a huge series of sparks. He hung limp in his harness. Somehow I climbed the pole (I still don't know how I did it) and carried him down to the ground. There were several witnesses. His left hand was nothing but bones. I gave him CPR. The Doctor and the Squad arrived from Pomeroy. He was declared. My uncle, Frederick Whaley who was an Executive with the Electric Company learned of what I had done. He and the President of the Electric Company presented me with an Award for getting Mr. Moodispaugh off the pole and trying to save him.
