Alexander was the son of James Edie and Mary (Ward) Edie. Alexander was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, on July 12, 1806, and died in Mill Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, on August 31, 1831.
The graves of James Edie, Mary (Ward) Edie, and Rebecca Edie are also marked by this monument.
