Moses' father was a captain in the Maryland Militia during the War of 1812 and his grandfather served in the Colonial Army at Yorktown. Moses was born March 26, 1807, and died September 1, 1878. On March 3, 1842, Moses bought 69 acres of land on Crooked Run road, and here he raised his family.
