Henry Limes was the second oldest son of Harmon Limes who came to America from England (Per the R.S. Dills book entitled, History of Fayette County (Ohio), page 813) just prior to the American Revolution. Henry's mother was probably Ann Burnett as a record exists for a marriage solemnized between Ann Burnett and Harman Limes at St. Paul's Parish in Baltimore, Maryland on January 4, 1783.
Page 82 of the Methodist publication: Abstracts of Obituaries in The Western Christian Advocate - 1834 - 1850 shows Henry Limes' birth date as July 15, 1786. The actual publication is located at the Beeghly Library on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
Henry Limes' full obituary states his cause of death was due to pulmonary consumption. His obituary describes him as "Brother Henry Limes" because he was a Methodist class leader for several years. His name appears in the records during the time span of 1811 to 1837 in the "Paint Creek – Washington Circuit Quarterly Conference Book" which is located at the Beeghly Library and was microfilmed by the LDS Library in Utah. He was listed as a Class Leader during the years between 1834 and 1837. In 1836, he was listed as serving as an Exhorter.
There is a record of a "Limes Meeting House" in 1854. It is thought to have been located near the Gustin/Sheep Pen/Limes Cemetery. There are also records of a "Limes School" that once existed in this general vicinity of the cemetery.
The "Limes Cemetery" records have January 31, 1842 as his date of death (his tombstone shows 55 years and 6 months). His obituary shows his date of death as January 30, 1842. The "Limes" Cemetery is situated half in Fayette County, Ohio and half in Highland County, Ohio.
Henry Limes had one older brother, William (1778 - 1863); a younger brother, Harmon Jr. (1791 - 1861); and one sister, Margaret, who married a Joshua Bishop in 1806 in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia.
The 1820 Ohio Census shows William, Henry and Harmon Jr. living next to each other in Green Township, Fayette County.
Henry was married to Hannah Nolan. Date and location of their marriage are unknown. Hannah died on November 3, 1863 at age 73 years, 2 months and 24 days.
Henry and Hannah Limes, as well as their children, were all buried in the "Limes Cemetery" AKA Sheep Pen AKA Gustin Cemetery.
