Christopher Jacob Gompf was born in Germany to Philipp and Anna Maria (Daum) Gompf. He was born April 16, 1790 and died from a stroke on Dec 15, 1879. He was a baker and his wife’s, Sibilla (Bob), father was Engelhard Bob and was a Distiller Master. The house that Christopher and Sibilla 1st lived in was Engelhard Bob’s house originally. He learned the Baker’s trade and was a baker for 7 years, moved to London England . After his marriage he conducted a general store.
In the fall of 1837 he and his family came to America and located in Marion County, Ohio where he rented for one year from his brother, George (see chapter 3) a farm on the east side of the Whetstone River.
