Emma Clara Gutheil, age 94, of Bexley, died Saturday, February 1, 1997 at her residence. In her youth she had served as secretary assistant to the Consulate General at the American Consulate in Munich, Germany. She was graduated in 1920 from Columbus South High School. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Helmut H. Gutheil and a son, Yost. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Rudy (Carol) Gutheil of Whitehall; by daughters and sons-in-law, Edith (Bob) Balser of Delaware, Oh., Inge (Bob) Ackermann of Amherst, Mass., Ilse (Jerry) Long of Jonesboro, Georgia, and Doris (Albert) Sparks of Columbus; 18 grandchildren, Kurt Balser, Kimberly Thompson, Robert, Carl and Ilse Ackermann, Yvonne Whisman, Debra Gutheil, Carey Christian, Dawn Moore Christian, Trent Christian, Elaine Smith, Karen Mizell, Tonda Kiffin, Albert Sparks III, Melissa Shutler, Krista, Amanda, and Ryan Sparks; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister,, Margaret Lee of Lima, Oh.; brother, Johnie Schmitt of Deland, Fla. Friends may call WOODYARD EAST CHAPEL, 2300 E. Livingston Ave. Tuesday 5 to 8 p.m., where service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Pastor Michael Nitz officiating. Interment Green Lawn Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made in her memory to the Building Fund of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 322 E. Stewart Ave.
