Some records have his first name listed as Reinhard and others Reinhart. He was born Aug 8, 1831 in Eichstetten, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, and died Jan 17, 1916 in Grove City, Franklin, Ohio. S/O Johann Martin Brandenberger (B:1793-Eichstetten), and Anna Katharina Wiedmann (B:1798-Eichstetten). His siblings included: Matthies, Johann, Jakob, an earlier Reinhard who died in infancy, and Anna Katharina.

On Jul 16, 1861 he married Maria Salomea Walz in Eichstetten, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. They had 10 children; but only 8 lived to adulthood. They were: Reinhard, August, Frederick, William, Emma, Albert, Maria, and Louise. (Amalie, and Gustav died in infancy).

On Feb 27, 1893 he arrived in New York, New York on the ship "La Gascogne" which departed from La Harve, France. Listed on the manifest was himself age 60, his wife, Maria, age 52, and three of his daughters; Emma, age 20, (Maria)Salome, age 15, and Louise, age 11. August and Frederick came to Ohio later; but they are listed in the family by 1900. William immigrated to Kansas, Albert to California; and his eldest, Reinhard, stayed in Germany.
