Otto was born Aug 7, 1893 in Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio, and died May 18, 1935 in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio. S/O Edward Mertz and Anna Roady.
On Nov 10, 1915 he married Ada Marie Gordon in Franklin County, Ohio; D/O Charles W Gordon and Jennie McCoy.
On Dec 19, 1917, he joined the U.S. Army, and served until Feb 13, 1919, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He received an Honorable Discharge.
