Sherman Eugene Carney, age 74, of Saint Paris passed away at 6:25 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in the McAuley Center, Urbana.
Born on July 16, 1939, Sherman was a son of the late Asa B. and Clara (Apple) Carney. He married Beulah Banks on April 3, 1978 who survives in Saint Paris. He is survived by seven children; Teresa Derrah, Pamela Hale, Melissa Roberts, Sherman John Asa (Marsha) Carney of Urbana, Sarah (Brandon) Nichols, Joseph Eugene (Ashley) Carney and Melinda (George Jr.) Sizemore all of St. Paris. Sherman was a proud grandfather to sixteen grandchildren; Janice and Dustin Brewer, Ryan and Bradley Hale, Justin, Brandon and Caleb Roberts, Christian, Makenna, Gabe, Dawson, Quinlan (Quinngene) Nichols, Conner, Mariah and Noah Sizemore and Shayla Carney. He is also survived by one brother, James Carney of Wisconsin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Elcena Imel. Sherman attended the Westly Chapel House of Prayer, West Liberty. He was a 1958 graduate of Graham High School and retired from American Airlines in 2001. He was an avid Reds fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sports. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, St. Paris Ohio with Reverend Robert Cromer presiding. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, N. Heck Hill Road, St. Paris, Ohio.
