– Betty L. Calland, age 69, of Saint Paris passed away at 10:42 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in the Springfield Regional Medical Center. Born on October 23, 1944, in Urbana, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Hild and Leona (Shaw) Hild who still survives. Betty is survived by three children, Kimberley (Doug) Joos of South Charleston, Paul (Joyce) Calland of Urbana and Jenny (Ian) Thompson of South Charleston. Betty was a wonderful grandmother to seven grandchildren, Evan and Nicholas Joos, Macy Calland, Brooke, Sydney and Jenna Gram and Trayton Thompson. She is also survived by her brother Wilbur "Butch" (Shirley) Hild of St. Paris and several nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her grandson Matt Calland and close friend Larry Wray. Betty was a 1962 graduate of Graham High School. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Betty was an excellent baker and had a great love for horses. She was a 30+ year leader of the 4-H Golden Saddles and a member of the Arabian Horse Association and the Ohio Horseman's Council. She worked at David's Greenhouse, Systemax and Garber Seeders. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 121 E. Walnut Street, St. Paris, OH, with Father Larry Gearhart presiding. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery.
