Russell James Putnam, 87, of Fayetteville, Tenn. passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in the Regency • Retirement Village in Huntsville, Ala.
He was a native of St. Paris, the son of the late Clarence Edward and Dora Maria (Gimus) Putnam. He married Eloise Jane Massie in 1947, and she preceded him in death in 2001.
He is survived by two daughters, Julie Humphrey and husband Joe of LaFayette, Tenn. and Susan Bagby of Fayetteville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Jay Humphrey, Keith Bagby, Ricky Bagby and Jason Bagby; eight great¬grandchildren, Ahna Humphrey, Austin Bagby, Taylor Bagby, Jacob Bagby, Tabitha Bagby, Drake Bagby, Grade Bagby and Faith Bagby; a special cousin, Jim Putnam of Delaware; and many extended family members and friends.
Mr. Putnam was an Army veteran having served in the 82nd Airborne Division and a member of the Philip Grieser Memorial Post 7645 VFW in St. Paris. Mr. Putnam was a civilian employee of the U.S. Army working as a supervisor in the catalog division. He was an auction ring man for Quick's Auction Barn in Fayetteville for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, with the Rev. James VanZile of the St. Paris Baptist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, N. Heck Hill Road, St. Paris.
