Virginia M. Denman, 91, of Piqua, went home to be with the Lord at 6:47 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, in her residence.
She was born on March 25, 1917, in Arrington, Kan., a daughter of the late Ernest F. and Minnie E. (Nevins) High. She married Russell Denman on Jan. 9, 1951, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1992.
Virginia is survived by one daughter and son in law, Kay Ellen and Michael Devenport of Idaho; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Elta Mae Free Smith Biles; two brothers; and one infant sister.
Virginia was a graduate of Atchison High School, Atchison, Kan., St. Margaret's Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Kan. Slones Hospital for Women (now Presbyterian Hospital) in New York. Virginia worked as a nurse at Piqua Memorial Hospital while maintaining a job as a private nurse until 1958. She then worked at Dettmer hospital in Troy until 1963. She later returned as recovery room supervisor. Virginia spent her later years working at Sunset cleaners in Piqua where she made a lot of friends before moving to Idaho in 2003. She recently returned home to reconnect with family and friends. Virginia attended the Living Word Fellowship in Troy.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Fletcher Cemetery with Pastor Gilbert Welbaum of the Living Word Church presiding.
