Mary Elizabeth Zirkle, 91, of Sidney passed away at 6:30 pm Monday, Sept 6, 2010, in Fair Haven Nursing Home, Sidney.
She was born March 8, 1919, in Bradford, the daughter of the late Harley and Bertha (Yoder) Hoover. She married Charles R Zirkle on Oct 25, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Jan 27, 1989.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Barbara J Zirkle of Willard and Charlotte K and husband Mike Friend of Oak Ridge, Tenn; two grandchildren, Kristen Friend of Tampa, Fla and Scott Friend and wife Jennifer of Christiansburg, V; and one great-grandson, Jackson Friend. A sister, Edna Marie (Hoover) Rhodehamel of Greenville also survives her. In addition to her parents and husband, a brother, Galen Hoover, preceded her in death.
Mary was a 1937 graduate of Bradford High School and a 1941 graduate of Manchester College in North Manchester, Ind. She was a member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church. A homemaker and a teacher of business, home economics and English, she retired in 1980 having taught at Brown Township, Fairlawn, Botkins, and Miami East. Schools.She was a lifetime member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. In her spare time she enjoyed going to sales, collecting antiques, and she was an excellent seamstress.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 am in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W Main St, Fletcher, with the Rev Russ Tichenor of the Fletcher United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery.
