Donald J. Riffell, 68, of Casstown, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 1:45 a.m. in the Upper Valley Medical Center.

He was born May 9, 1938, in Painter’s Creek, (Darke County) the son of John J. and Helen Pauline (Deal) Riffell. His mother, Helen Riffell, survives in Piqua.

He married Jean R. Covault on August 4, 1956, and she survives.

He is also survived by his son, John Riffell of Troy; three daughters, Jill Riffell of Troy, Joni (Donald) Dilts of Troy and Jenny Reed of Rosewood; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Other survivors include seven sisters: Virgina (Chuck) Pennington, Kettering; Donna Pauline (Nevin) Elleman, Troy; Sandy (Dean) Easterling, Troy; Shirley Morrow, Indiana; Barbara (Robert) Helm, Tipp City; Janet Sue (David) Bowers, Easley, S.C.; and Annette (Gregg) Miller of Piqua; and brother, John (Ruth) Riffell of St. Marys; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, and a granddaughter, Ashleigh Reed.

Donald was a member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church. He was employed for 41 1/2 years by B.F. Goodrich, Troy, retiring in January of 2001. He was a seasonal worker for Fiebiger’s Inc., Sidney.

He was a member of the Fletcher Lions Club, Troy Eagles, Troy Fish and Game Club, a board member for the A.B. Graham Center, Conover, and a past 4-H leader in Miami County.

He played fast pitch and slow pitch softball for 40 years and he loved golf.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, with Pastor Rick Arrowroot of the Troy Baptist Temple presiding.

Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery.
