Robert C. Pence, 85, of Piqua, formerly of Sidney, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at 1:25 a.m. at Heartland of Piqua nursing home. He was born March 12, 1917, in Shelby County to Earl and Martha (Stockstill) Pence. On Jan. 4, 1963, he married Florence (Cron) Wintrow. Mr. Pence is survived by his wife; two sons, William "Bill" Pence of Sidney and Bruce Pence of Minster; a daughter, Barbara Hay of Louisville, Ky.; a stepson, LeRoy Wintrow Jr. of Covington; a stepdaughter, Freda Creager of Piqua; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. A 1935 graduate of Sidney High School, Mr. Pence served in the Marines in the Pacific during World War II. He later became a member of the Marine Reserves. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Piqua, the Lena Masonic Lodge 217 in Sidney, Chapter 130 Royal Arch Masons, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 54 of Port Jefferson and Veterans of Foreign Wars 04874 in Piqua. He retired as an employee of Miami County. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Suber Funeral Home in Fletcher, with the Rev. Frank Sapp officiating. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery
