V. Jean Ponchilla, 89, of Fletcher, passed away in her residence on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015. Born on May 19, 1926, in Piqua, Jean was a daughter of the late Ernest A. and Dorothy V. (Buck) Gibboney.
She married Paul A. Ponchilla on Sept. 2, 1942, and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1999. Together they raised two sons: Paul (Jimmy Sue) Ponchilla of Three Rivers, Mich., and Keith (Vickie) Ponchilla of Troy. She was a loving grandmother to four grandchildren: Tina (Durand) McIntosh of Franklin, Tenn.; Jeffrey Ponchilla of Franklin, Tenn.; Keith Ponchilla II of Troy; and Scott (Ginger) Ponchilla of Piqua; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a sister, Rita Gibboney of Piqua; brother James (Gloria) Gibboney of Newark, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was a member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and formerly served as the church librarian and on the administrative council. She was a dental assistant for William D. Marshall, DDS, in Piqua and was formerly employed as a nurse's aide for Piqua Memorial Hospital. Jean loved to do volunteer reading in the kindergarten classes at Miami East Elementary School in Fletcher. She also enjoyed quilting and hand stitching.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in the Fletcher United Methodist Church, 205 S. Walnut St., Fletcher, with the Rev. Bonita Ritchie of the Tipp City United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery.
