WWII and Korea-US Army
Gene L. Saul, 74, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 in his residence in Piqua. He was born Jan. 7, 1928 to William Tazwell and Flora Jane (Macy) Saul in Miami County. He was one of 13 children. He married Giula Baker on Dec. 19, 1954; and she survives. In addition to his wife, his is survived by one son, Dennis Saul and two daughters, Rachel Rowley and Vickey Saul, all of Piqua. He has two grandchildren, Eryn Rowley and J.D. Saul, also of Piqua. Gene is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Williams of Sonoma, Calif. and Nancy (James) Holler of Washington, Pa., and two brothers, Dick (Erma Jean) Saul of St. Paris and Woodrow (Jewell) Saul of Bradford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Renee Robin Saul and Teresa Ann Saul, and eight other brothers and sisters. He was a 1946 graduate of Lena Conover High School and attended Miami University in Oxford. He was a veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army. He worked for Ohio Aviation of Vandalia for 11 years, then went to work for General Motors in Dayton and retired after 28 years. After retirement he worked for Morgan Drive Away in Union City. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 184, Piqua and AmVets Post No. 72, Piqua. Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Suber Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Rick Cartwright of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Piqua, presiding. Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery. A graveside veteran's services will be conducted by VFW Post No. 4874 Honor Guard.
