Lova Mae Worthington, 96, of Dorothy Love Retirement Community, Sidney, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010, in Dorothy Love.
She was born in Miami County, a daughter of the late Earl and Myrtie (Morris) Worthington on April 21, 1914. In addition to her parents, Lova was preceded in death by three brothers: Carl, Johnie, and Horace, and two sisters, Vertie Sands and Bessie Hope Worthington.
Lova is survived by four nieces: caregiver Inez (Dick) Smith of Fletcher, Evelyn Smithey of Sidney, Carolyn (Chuck) Thornberry of Mesa, Colo., and Roberta Billingsley of Boulder, Colo. Lova was a member of the (Brush) Springcreek Christian Church.
She was Worthy Matron in 1944 of Order of Eastern Star, Fidelity Chapter 88 of Lena. She graduated in 1932 from Lena-Conover School where she was valedictorian of her class. In 1941 she graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.
She retired in 1970 after teaching 36 years; seven years at Washington Twp. and 29 years at Kyle School in Troy.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, with Pastor Darrin Harvey of the GreenView United Church of Christ presiding. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery.
