Ellen I. Gates, 83, Quincy, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at 9:35 a.m. in the Pavilion Nursing Home.
She was born March 2, 1921, in Sidney, daughter of the late William T. and Luella Baker Shroyer. She married Sherman L. Gates on Feb 2, 1946, and he died Sept. 5, 1992.
Mrs. Gates is survived by a son Larry and Vicki Gates of Sidney, and four daughters Janet Darling of Sidney, Raymond and Julie Zwiebel of Jackson Center, Steve and Loretta Schweitzer of Quincy and Rose Marie Murphy of Sidney; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Gates was a homemaker. She was a member of the Sidney Eagles and VFW of Quincy.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home on Tuesday. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Harold McKnight officiating. Burial will be at the Shelby Memory Gardens.
