HOUSTON – Doris ‘June' (Durnell) Knouff, 84, of Houston, passed away peacefully at 6:35 p.m. on February 12, 2014. She was born on September 5, 1929, at home in Miami County, Piqua, to the late Lewis F. and Anna (Hetzler) Durnell. She married Charles Lester Knouff on January 11, 1947, in Campbell County, Covington KY. They shared 67 years of marriage together. Charles survives in Houston.

Also surviving is one son, Charles Thomas Knouff and wife Gail, of Houston; two daughters, Joyce ‘Joy' Louise Zircher and husband Bernard, of Ft. Loramie, Susan ‘Sue' Viann Slife, of Fort Loramie; grandchildren, Christopher T. Knouff (Kelly), of Anna, Craig L. Knouff (Teresa), of Houston, Timothy D. Knouff (Krista), of Arkansas, Andrea J. (Knouff) Ziegler (John), of Maria Stein, Michelle D. (Monnier) Sherman (Steven), of Yorkshire, Nicholas L. Zircher (Sara), of Ft. Loramie, Brian N. Zircher, Washington State, Kevin P. Zircher (Marcella), of Sidney, Matthew J. Zircher, of Sidney, Jeffrey L. Slife (Carole), of Celina, Janelle S. (Slife) Barga (Sheldon), of Versailles; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Norma (Short) Durnell, of Sidney, Frances (Knouff) Durnell, of Piqua; brother-in-law, Johnny Knouff, of Celina; numerous nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her parents, twin sister, Helen Joyce Durnell; brothers, Robert Durnell and Eugene Durnell; son-in-law, John L. Slife.

June graduated from Houston High School in 1965. She worked in the office at French Oil Machinery, Piqua from 1966-1972. In 1972 she and her husband Charles began Knouff Excavating in Houston and she worked with him until 2001. In 2001, until 2007, June worked at Wal-Mart in Sidney as the Telephone Operator and Fitting Room attendant.

June has been a member of the Houston Congregational Christian Church, Houston, since 1946. She was a charter member of the Shelby County Genealogy Society, Charter member of Houston Rescue Squad and Fire Department, and a member of the Piqua Square Dancers in Miami County.

June enjoyed reading, gardening, gambling and genealogy. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. All that knew her was touched by her gentle, kind and loving nature. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 17, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at the Houston CC Church, Houston, with Pastors Greg Morrow and James Manuel officiating. Burial will take place following services at the Houston Cemetery, Houston.
