Daniel G. Gentis, 75, of Urbana, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 in Springfield Regional Medical Center, Springfield, Ohio.
Danny was born August 22, 1940 in Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio, the son of Alton M. and Ruth Ann (Gard) Gentis. He was a 1958 graduate of Graham High School and received the first diploma from the first graduating class of GHS. He served in the United States Army Reserves 435th Medical Battalion. Soon after his high school graduation he started farming on his own which he continued until his death. Danny was also a partner in the Gentis Family Farm, a Century Farm. Danny loved farming and preserving farmland. In addition to his farming interests, Danny collected antique cars, tractors and farm toys. He was a member of the Westville UMC, the Knights of Pythias and the Clark County Animal Welfare League.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Springfield Regional Hospital 4N for their excellent care of Danny during the last weeks of his life.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Janet (Arbogast) Gentis; siblings, Jody (Kevin Lanich) Gentis, Richard (Dianne) Gentis and David (Sandy) Gentis; special nephew Joshua A. Gentis, a partner in the farm and a devoted nephew; plus several nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Daniel is preceded in death by his parents and by his Aunt Mary Gard of Tremont City, Ohio.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in Terre Haute Cemetery
