Cornelius P. Baxter was born on June 10, 1823, in Monroe, Ohio, his father, John, was 47 and his mother, Lydia, was 36. He died on June 16, 1885, in his hometown at the age of 62. Baxter's Ridge Cemetery, Carroll County, Ohio. Sarah Ann Yant was born in 1830 and married Cornelius Baxter in 1852 with whom she was permitted to live until 1905. Ten children were born to them.
An article published in the Carroll Chronicle, in 1905:
A Mrs. Dell Beamer was driving Sarah Ann Yant back to Sherrodsville with Sarah's son after a reunion in the field across from Baxter's Ridge Church, in a spring wagon. As they started out someone reported to them that the bridge was washed out from the rains and high water. Mrs. Beamer went out into a field to turn around, when the horse stepped into a hornet's or yellow jackets nest and broke out into a run back up the road. Mrs. Beamer was turning into the cemetery when one of the wagon wheels hit a tree, throwing Sarah out and breaking her collarbone.
Sara's obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Friday, June 30, 1905: Mrs. Sara Ann Yant Baxter died at the home of her sons in Sherrodsville after a lingering illness. Her age was 75 years. Funeral Saturday at Baxter Ridge.
