Co C 174th OHIO INF.
LEWIS FRANKLIN GILL was born 12 January 1847. When 17 years and 7 months old, Frank became a Private of Company C, 174th Regiment, Ohio Volunteers enrolled on 20 August 1864 at Marysville for one year, and is on the rolls of company from enlistment to 30 April 1865. He mustered out with his company on 28 June 1865.
In November 1864 at Decatur, Alabama, while Frank sat on the ground reading a letter, a snipers shot rang out, the shot passed though his left wrist, which was not treated as it went through the fleshy part, but which distressed him evermore. He died 28 January 1887, just 40 years old.
Frank married MALISSA FISHER (daughter of Benjamin S. Fisher and Catharine Cramer) on 21 March 1868 in Union County, Ohio the Reverend A. M. Ravenscroft officiating. Melissa died on 07 July 1928.
