White Oak Cemetery, also known as Chalfan Cem. in the early 1900s is located in Scipio Twp. on the north side of Co. Rd. 17, Cotterill Rd. in section 31.
At one time there were 5 huge white oaks standing in this cemetery. Sometime in the 1960-1970 these oaks were sold by the township trustees for timber. Supposedly the money was to be used for the care and upkeep of the cemetery. Once the money was received instead of going into a fund just for the cemetery it was put in the general fund for the township.
The cemetery is mowed and in descent shape. There are stones that have fallen and broken stones all in need of resetting and repair.
