The marker is engraved "SAMUEL T. SON OF ISAAC & MARIAH HOWENSTINE. BORN MAY 14, 1862. DIED JUNE 12, 1879. AGED 17 YRS. 28D."
Samuel was included in the 1870 census listing for Pike, Stark, Ohio. The family unit consisted of his widowed mother, Maria L Howenstine (39) and children Samuel T (8), Henry H (5) and Nancy A (3). They lived with the Silas McKinney family.
