Shirley L Carlson, 85 of St. Paris, died at 10:31 am Thursday May 18, 1995 in her residence
She was born on May 9, 1929 in Tripp, SD, the daughter of Frank B and Lucille (Little) Smith.
She attended Madison State Teachers College, S.D. and she taught grade school in South Dakota for several years. She was a member of the St. Paris United Methodist Church were she was active in the church choir.
She was editor from 1958 to January of 1995 of the German Shorthaired Pointer Monthly News; was a member of the Buckeye Shorthaired Pointer Club; a member of the Dog Writers Association of America; an honorary lifetime member of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America; and a member of the US. Trotting Association.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford Carlson, who she married on Oct. 21, 1949; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rory Carlson, Flat Rock, MI, Scott an Vanessa Carlson, St. Paris; two nieces and nephews who she was guardian, Arlene Gloege, Maryville, Sue Gloege, Torrance, CA, five grandchildren, Michael and Holly Carlson, Lakeview; Jessica and James Carlson, St. Paris; one great grandson, Zachary Holbrook, Lakeview; one brother James Smith, Canby, MN; and one sister, Marilyn Jenson, Minneapolis, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral service will be held at 11 am, Monday, in the St. Paris United Methodist Church, with Pastor Paul Zimmerman officiating.
Burial will be held in Spring Grove Cemetery, St. Paris
