Bertha I. Ganger, 88, of Piqua, died at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Piqua Manor. She was born April 23, 1925, in Cynthian Township, Shelby County, to the late Palmer and Carrie Lucille (Owen) Watkins. Bertha married William M. Ganger on June 18, 1945 in Sidney; he preceded her in death on November 16, 2013.

Mrs. Ganger is survived by six children, Pauline Ganger (late husband James Dudley) of Piqua, Robert (Brenda) Ganger of Sidney, Brenda (Michael) Ward of Piqua, Steven Ganger of Fort Loramie, Gregory (Tamara) Ganger of Houston, and Shirley (Scott) Cantrell of Panama City Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Olive (Don) Perin of Marion, Zenith Johnson of Gallipolis; two brothers, Willard Watkins of Sidney, James (Leatha) Watkins of Quincy; three sisters-in-law, Helen Watkins of Minster, Hettie Watkins of Livingston, Tenn., Anna Watkins of Sidney; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ganger; a sister, Lerna (Hugo) Stachoski; and four brothers, Joseph (Gladys), Wright, George, and John Watkins.

Bertha was a 1943 graduate of Sidney High School and retired from the former Piqua Memorial Hospital after 23 years as a nurse's aide. Following retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards with friends from Houston, and watching the Cincinnati Reds on television with her husband Bill. She was a member of the Houston Congregational Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a lifetime member of the Ladies' Aid.

A funeral service to honor her life will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Morrow officiating. Burial will follow in Houston Cemetery.
