Blanche E. Watts Reading- She is the daughter of Horace Watts born November 1845 died September 30, 1924 and Theresa McElroy born May 1847 and died February 15, 1929. Wife of Rev. Benjamin Franklin Reading. Their son Paul M. Reading born May 13, 1893 died January 20, 1935. Rev. B.F. Reading- born September 08, 1866 died April 19, 1959. Son of DR. John Wesley Reading and Jane Charlotte Webster.
Husband of Blanche Eva Watts, which he married on March 15, 1888 in York, Union Co., Ohio. Father of 6 chidren. He had one brother William Webster Reading.

DR. BENJAMIN F. READING DIES AT 92; WAS PASTOR, LEGISLATOR.
DR. BENJAMIN F. READING, 92, 3933 HOMEWOOD AVENUE, TOLEDO, FATHER OF BASHFORD W. READING, TAFT AVENUE, DIED SUNDAY IN THE QUILLAN REST HOME THERE. HE WAS A RETIRED METHODIST MINISTER, AND A FOUR-TERM MEMBER OF THE OHIO LEGISLATURE. OF THE 45 YEARS HE WAS IN THE MINISTRY, HE SERVED IN TOLEDO FOR 25 YEARS. HE WENT TO TOLEDO IN 1905 TO BROADWAY METHODIST CHURCH. THEN HE WAS PASTOR OF THE EUCLID COLLINGWOOD AND WESTERN METHODIST CHURCHES. HE ALSO SERVED IN BOWLING GREEN AND LIMA. FOR SIX YEARS HE WAS SUPERINTENDENT OF THE DELAWARE DISTRICT OF THE METHODIST CHURCH. HE WAS NAMED PASTOR EMERITUS OF COLLINGWOOD CHURCH WHEN HE RETIRED IN 1948. AFTER HE RETIRED FROM THE MINISTRY, HE HAD AN ACTIVE CAREER IN PUBLIC LIKE AND THAT PROMOTED HIM, AT THE AGE OF 90, TO WRITE A BOOK, " DEMOCRACY CAN SUCCEED - HOW? ". IT WAS IN 1939 HE WAS ELECTED TO A TWO-YEAR TERM IN THE ASSEMBLY ON THE LUCAS COUNTY REPUBLICAN TICKET. HE WAS REELECTED FOR THREE MORE TERMS.
DR. READING WAS A NATIVE OF UNION COUNTY, OHIO, AND HE WAS ORDAINED AS A METHODIST EPISCOPAL MINISTER IN 1899 WHEN HE WAS GRADUATED FROM OHIO WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY. HE ASSUMED A PASTOR-ATE THAT YEAR IN RAWSON, OHIO, AND SERVED A CHURCH IN McCOMB, OHIO, BEFORE HE CAME TO TOLEDO, OHIO. A HIGH POINT IN THE LIFE OF DR. READING WAS THE FOUNDING OF THE TOLEDO GOODWILL INDUSTRIES IN 1933. HE WAS ONE OF THE THREE ORIGINAL INCORPORATORS. HE HELD NUMEROUS POSTIONS WITH THE ORGANIZATION.
DR. READING'S FIRST WIFE WAS THE FORMER EVA BLANCHE WATTS, WHOM HE MARRIED IN 1888. THEY HAD THREE SONS AND ONE DAUGHTER. SHE DIED IN 1946, AT THE AGE OF 80, HE MARRIED A LIFELONG FRIEND, THE FORMER MRS. BERTHA B. BOLENBAUGH OF RICHWOOD, OHIO.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE; DAUGHTER, MRS. GLENN ( MARY ) ROBINSON, OF TOLEDO; SONS, BASHFORD, OF FREMONT, AND EDWIN J., OF EVANSVILLE, IND, AND GEORGE W., OF WEST MYSTIC, CONN.; SIX GRANDCHILDERN AND NINE GREAT GRANDCHILDERN ALSO SURVIVE. DR. READING WAS ACTIVE IN THE ODD FELLOWS, AND WAS THE GRAND MASTER OF THE OHIO LODGE IN 1931-1932. HE WAS ACTIVE IN MASONIC ORGANIZATIONS 60 YEARS, WAS A 32ND DEGREE MASON, AND WAS PAST CHAPLAIN OF RUBIC O N LODGE, F& AM
. HE ALSO BELONGED TO THE HIGH TWELVE CLUB. HE WAS A TRUSTEE OF OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY AND ONE OF THE FOUNDERS OF FLOWER HOSPITAL. HE RECEIVED CREDIT OF BEING ONE OF THE FIRST VOLUNTEER OFFICERS OF THE LUCAS COUNTY JUVENILE COURT.
