ALBANY - Millie Ruth Coen, 86, of Albany, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, July 9, 2010, at her residence.
Born at her present home in Vinton County on Oct. 8, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Dallas Jacob and Grace Ethel Canode Hensler. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from Ohio University, and began teaching at Columbia School. Later, she taught in Vinton County at McArthur and Wilkesville Elementaries, and retired after 27 years of teaching.
She attended Columbia Chapel Christian Church all of her life.
She served in many offices at Columbia Chapel Church for more than 60 years. She also was a member of Wilkesville Garden Club and the Women's Fellowship Group.
Millie is survived by her husband of 56 years, Kenneth Edward Coen; children Kenneth J. (Donna) Coen of Albany, Rachel Pridemore of Wilkesville, Ruth Yanity of Albany and John (Wendy) Coen of Athens; grandchildren Tim Pridemore, Holly Pridemore, Elizabeth Yanity, and Emily, David and Julie Coen; great-grandchildren Riley and Haley Shields, and Cole and Hannah Pridemore; a brother and sister-in-law, John Paul (Linda)
Hensler of Palm Coast, Fla.; stepchildren Phyllis (Robert)
Brooks of Albany and Larry (Marilyn) Coen of Lewisville; and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Dallas Clayton (Barbara) Hensler; and a son-in-law, Greg Pridemore.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Columbia Chapel Christian Church, with pastors Willard Love and Don Quisenberry officiating. Burial will be in Castor Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service. You may sign her register book at www.bigonyjordanfuneralhome.com
