Martha was a daughter of Judge David Mitchell and Martha 'Mattie' Black. She was born on 12 May 1796 in Kentucky. She was 3 years old when her extended family migrated to the Ohio wilderness along the Big Darby Creek. She married Judge Robert Nelson who came from Pennsylvania to Darby Township in 1813. They did not have any children.
She died April 20, 1863
