HENSON Funeral service for Oliver Jacob Henson, age 95, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, at the Newark Chapel of HENDERSON, VAN ATTA & JOHNSTON FUNERAL SERVICE, 59 N. Fifth St., with Rev. Linda Scott officiating. A graveside interment service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus. Mr. Henson, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark, died Monday, August 17, 1998, at the LPN Healthcare Facility. Born April 26, 1903, in Columbus, he was a son of the late Frank and Helen (Gleich) Henson. He held management positions with the J.P. Gordon Company of Columbus for 32 years and with The Peoples Company of Huntington, W.Va., for 17 years. He retired in 1970 from The Peoples Company and returned in 1976 to live in Heath, Oh. He was also a member of the McKendree United Methodist Church in Columbus and the First United Methodist Church in Huntington, W.Va. He was a member of the Columbus Masonic Lodge 3, Temple Chapter 155, York Council 115 Scottish Rite, Aladdin Temple Shrine and Licking County Shrine Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife Harriet (Lawrence) Henson in 1974 and by 2 brothers Ralph and Harold Henson. Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Mary (Price) Richmer Henson; daughters, Edith P. Hawks, Hendersonville, N.C., Mary H. and Terry Leedom, Charleston, S.C.; sons, O. Glenn and Mary Ellen Henson, Urbana, Oh., Frank H. and Jean Henson, Worthington, Oh.; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel and Denzil Counsil, Westerville, Oh. He is also survived by his wife's children, Andrew and Thelma Richmer, Newark, Oh., Linda and James Best, Toledo, Oh., Mary Anna and William Konschak, Modesto, Ca. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home where a Masonic service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 1435-B W. Main St., or to the First United Methodist Church, 88 N. Fifth St., Newark, Oh. 43055.
Harriet was born Mar 9, 1903 in Ohio, and died Sep 22, 1974 in Boyd County, Kentucky. D/O Herman E Lawrence (B:1881-OH), and Mary Gilespie (B:1877-OH). She was the eldest. Her siblings included: Edwin, Anna, and Lillian.
At the time of her death her residence was Huntington, Cabel, West Virginia.
Oliver J Henson and Harriet Lawrence were married Sep 11, 1926 in Newark, Licking, Ohio. Their children included: Edith, Glenn, Frank, and Mary.
