Lydia BENHAM MESSENGER

Old Colony Burying Ground Cemetery
Licking County,
Ohio

Lydia was born August 23, 1796 in Southbury, New Haven County, Connecticut, the 2nd of four children in Joseph and Anna (Hall) Benham's family. The family included an older brother born a year before Lydia, who died young; a sister Laury and a brother Eber.

Connecticut records show Lydia married Campbell Messenger on November 16, 1845. He was 52 and she was 49 years old, and he brought her back to Granville, Ohio where he had made his home since 1805.

Lydia and Campbell are found in the 1850 census, living in Harrison Township [Licking County] with Campbell's two youngest children from his first marriage, Martha and Madison. They are still living in Harrison in 1860, though the children had left home by that time.

Lydia died in 1895, in Granville, Licking County, Ohio, outliving her husband by almost 30 years. No exact date of death is known at this time.
