Hannah Higley was born April 27, 1758, one of two daughters born to Dudley Higley and Eunice Stratton of Simsbury, Connecticut. Her sister's name was Lois.
In about 1781, Hannah married David Messenger, son of Nathaniel Messenger and Eleanor Griffin of Granby, Connecticut. Hannah and David were the parents of eight children: Grove, Sinthy, Hannah, David Jr., Samuel, Campbell, Harriet and Forest.
David and Hannah, accompanied by several of their children, came to Ohio in about 1805 as pioneer settlers of the Licking Land Co. Hannah died April 19, 1815 in Granville. She was only 52 years old. She is buried in plot #756 and lies between her husband and son, Campbell. This photo was taken in 1973. While Hannah's stone is no longer visible, excavations in June, 2013 have revealed shards of Hannah's stone that have been verified with Bryant's 1886 inscription records.
