Joan Esther Alspaugh, 73, of Piqua, formerly of Covington, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. She was born Sept. 16, 1933, in Fletcher to the late George and Sylvia (Parsons) Wooddell.
Joan was a 1951 graduate of Houston High School, Houston. She married her best friend, Maynard D. Alspaugh, on June 19, 1953, in Covington, and he survives.
Joan retired in 1984 from Terry's Cafeteria, Piqua, as head of the salad department. She formerly was employed with Atlas Underwear Co., Piqua.
Joan enjoyed children and babysat for many children, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many times she transported children to the swimming pool. Joan loved to attend sporting events and her grandchildren's musical programs. She also enjoyed genealogy and tracing families' history.
Joan was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Covington.
Joan will be missed and remembered by her husband Maynard; daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa (Terry) and Ralph Hittle of Pleasant Hill, Rose and David Burns of West Milton; son and daughter-in-law, David and Kristen Alspaugh of Covington; grandchildren, Jennifer and Kenneth Golden, Karen Spiers, Adam Hittle, Kari Hittle, Matthew and Amanda Burns, Katie Long and Blythe Alspaugh; great-grandchildren, Dontea Brown, Brandyn Taylor, Pearl Golden, Alanna Demoss, Skylar Demoss, Logan Burns, Allyson Burns, Kaydence Dorsten and Rylan Dorsten; sisters and brother-in-law, Alice and Ralph Mangen of Versailles and Judy Cost of Versailles; brothers and sister-in-law, Donald and Ruby Wooddell of Troy and William Wooddell of Covington; a very special friend and sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Wooddell of DeGraff; and faithful companion, her dog Rusty.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; great-grandchild, Brayden Dorsten; sister, Lois Frosythe; and brother, Lester Wooddell.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Pearson-Jackson Funeral Home, Covington, with Pastor Keith Wiggin officiating. Interment will take place in Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher.
