obit-Piqua Daily Call abstract.
Herbert M. Pence, 93, of St. Paris, passed away at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Piqua Manor. He was born in St. Paris on Dec. 14, 1910, the son of the late Walter and Carrie Alice (Jenkins) Pence.
Mr. Pence was a 1931 graduate of Johnson-St. Paris High School and had attended Indiana Technical College in Ft. Wayne, Ind. In 1975, he retired as job superintendent for Richard Arndts Construction, Vandalia. Herb was a member of the Carpenters Union No. 712, Springfield, and a recipient of their 50-year pin.
He was also a member of the St. Paris United Methodist Church.
Herb is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Sarah Catherine Michael, who he married on July 30, 1936; three cousins, Allen Prince of Orange, Calif, James (Shirley) Putnam of Worthington, and Russell Putnam of Fayetteville, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Richeson-Wickham and Atkins Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris with the Rev. Douglas Upton and the Rev. Dr. James Van Zile officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, St. Paris.
