Sylvan C. "Sib" Pence, age 87, of Urbana and formerly of St. Paris, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. in the Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.
Born on October 4, 1924 in Jackson Twp, Champaign County, Ohio, Sib was a son of the late James D. and Louise (Hook) Pence. He married Martha Jenkins on March 26, 1946 and she survives in Urbana.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Dale, Pearl, Marion, Frank, Paul and Walter Pence. Sib was a member of the St. Paris First Baptist Church and Harmony Lodge #8 F & AM of Urbana. Sib was employed by Pence's Sohio in St. Paris before retiring in 1968. He was also a lifelong farmer.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, St. Paris with Reverend Dr. James VanZile presiding. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, N. Heck Hill Road, St. Paris.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Masonic services at 8:00 p.m.
