Myron Franklin Maxson, 93, of Sidney, passed away peacefully in his sleep at 2:25 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010, at the Dorothy Love Retirement Community.
Myron was born Oct. 27, 1916, in Shelby County, a son of Frank Robert and Cora E. (Weissinger) Maxson.
He married Jeanne Thom of Sioux City, Iowa, on Sept. 15, 1945, and she survives. Together they raised two children, the Rev. Nicholas D. (Dianne) Maxson of New Knoxville and Kay Prater of Mishawaka, Ind.
A loving father and husband, he also is survived by seven grandchildren, Thomas (Jill) Maxson of Perrysburg, Elizabeth (Chandler) Greene of Indianapolis and Donald (Melissa) Maxson of Westerville; Victor Murphy of South Bend, Ind., Erin (Chris) Solis of Harrisonburg, Va., Kelly Murphy of Mishawaka, Ind., and Karly Prater of Mishawaka.
He also has four great-grandchildren, Kaiden, son of Kelly; and Monty, Killian, and Liam, sons of Erin. He also is survived by three sisters, Pearl (Millard) Baker of St. Paris, Mabel (Harold) Reed of Springfield and Phyllis (Robert) Wiltheiss of Piqua; one brother, Silas (Barbara) Maxson of Piqua; two sisters-in-law, Margaret (John) Maxson and Janet (Charles) Maxson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold (Elizabeth), Charles, John and Harry (Betty) Maxson; and three sisters, Dorothy Shaffer, Esta (Herman) Everett and Marveline (Kenneth) Everett.
Myron was a 1935 graduate of Lena-Conover High School.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a dental technician from Dec. 30, 1942, until Nov. 15, 1945, which included service in the European Theater.
After the war, Myron trained as a meat cutter through the G.I. Bill and was a sausage maker and plant superintendent at Caven's Meats in Conover for many years.
Before retiring, he worked in the maintenance department of Champaign County for several years and also was a part-time farmer.
He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and a mason for 65 years at the Lena Social Lodge No. 217. He was a follower of The Way International Biblical Research, Teaching and Fellowship ministry, New Knoxville, for 35 years.
A recognition service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, with Mr. Ed Wentworth presiding.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Myron is a participant in the Wright State University School of Medicine Anatomical Gift Program for scientific and educational research.
