Jim "Beaver" Baker, 74, of Piqua, passed away unexpectedly at 6 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in Hillview, Ky.
He was born Feb. 14, 1933, in Miami County, the son of the late James Clinton and Clyona (Brucker) Baker Sr. He married Sonja A. Kinnison on Feb. 4, 1961, and she survives.
Jim also is survived by five children, Jamie (Brian) Edgell of Fletcher, Brenda (Greg) Walker of Mekanda, III., Sherry Wackier of Greenville, Jean Miller of Kentucky and Tina Gilmore of Englewood; a sister, Cindy (Mike) Root of Covington; two brothers, Roger (Kathy) Baker of Covington and Greg (Linda) Baker of Piqua; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. His grandchildren, Olivia Edgell and Jacob Walker, sadly will miss him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Baker, and two sisters, Pat Motter and Suzanne Dorsey.
Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW Post 4235, a life member of the AmVets Post 66 and a member of Eagles Lodge 3998, all of Covington.
He worked for Corning Glass in Greenville for 36 years and was engaged in farming.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main Street, Fletcher with the Rev. Russ Tichenor of the Fletcher United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery with military honors by the Tri-Village Memorial Color Guard.
