Doris Louise FELVER CLARK

Fletcher, Brown Twp. Cemetery
Miami County,
Ohio

Doris Louise (Felver) Clark, 78, a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene, died peacefully Wednesday, April 25, 2007, in Seattle, Wash. She was defined by her devotion to faith, family, friends, and service to others.

She was born in Piqua on Sept. 12, 1928, at the home of her parents, Burley and Sylvia (Meyer) Felver. Doris was an outdoor girl from the start. She'd rather toil in the barn or help in the fields than work in the kitchen any day. She graduated from Piqua High School in 1947, and was an accomplished pitcher on the Hobart Manufacturing softball team in Troy where she worked.

She married Lester Clark, the love of her life, on Feb. 9, 1951, at the Piqua family farm and soon found herself living as a military wife, traveling the world, eventually living in Washington, D.C., Virginia, Kentucky, Alabama, Germany and Alaska.

When her husband retired from the military to become a pastor, she eagerly stepped into the ministry with him as a pastor's wife. During her busy life she watched a moose amble through her front yard, put up the best corn, made hollyhock dolls for her grandchildren, sang many old hymns in rich harmony and, of course, went to church often. But Doris probably will be remembered best as the caretaker for the poor in spirit, for she took great joy in jumping in and caring for those who had fallen on rough times. Her spirit of service is a legacy she has left to all those who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, the Rev. Lester Clark; their three children, Mark Clark, Lois Etienne and Carol Barnier; two brothers, Walter Felver and Jim Felver; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Piqua Church of the Nazarene, 400 S. Sunset Drive, Piqua, with Pastor Lincoln Robinson and the Rev. Steve Spoon officiating. Burial will follow at Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher
