Richard E. Hawkins, 76, of Fletcher, completed his journey here on earth and is in heaven with his Heavenly Father, on Sunday July 5, 2009. He died unexpectedly at his home.
He was bom Dec. 5,1932, in Urbana, the son of the late Harry W. Hawkins and mother, Mrs. Carl (Mary E. Block) LeFevre of Sidney.
He was married Oct. 17, 1953, in Port Jefferson, to Shirley Ann Scherer of Fletcher who survives along with, two daughters, Mrs. John (Melinda Ann) Henry of Tallmadge, who is currently doing missionary work in Africa, and Marcia Kay Leiss of Fletcher; grandchildren, Ronni (Kevin) Schaack, Nathan (Andrea) Morris, Wayne (Angie) Leiss and Michael (Carla) Leiss, and great-grandchildren, whom he cherished, Alec Schaak, Natalie Morris, Abigail Leiss, Carter Leiss, Andrea Leiss, Ryan Leiss and Cayla Leiss. Also surviving are sisters, Mrs. Bob (Jean) Bricker and Barbara Jacoby both of Sidney, Alberta Cruse of Piqua, and brother, Roger Hawkins and wife Joyce of Michigan.
An infant sister, Rosemary preceded him in death. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. We love you Dick, Dad, Grandpa, Papa.
Mr. Hawkins was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a graduate of Sidney High School with the class of 1951. Richard enjoyed reading, watching movies, fishing and bowling.
Mr. Hawkins was retired from the Aerovent Fan Co., and Piqua City Schools. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church of Troy.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday July 13 at Union Baptist Church, 1833 E. Peterson Road, Troy, with Pastor Dale Adkins officiating. Burial will be at Fletcher Cemetery in Fletcher.
